As I grow older, I have come to realize that my mom was a woman of much wisdom. She flew through life with a smile and a laugh that could make jello wiggle. She was joyful, and full of joy! She was funny and full of fun! But most importantly she could make you think beyond your daily grumblings with her sophisticated catch phrases.
One of her famous sayings was "OH, it will call come out in the wash"!! WHAT?!? was usually my response! What do you mean it will all come out in the wash? What comes out in the wash? And what does this have to do with the test I have tomorrow? And then she would turn to walk out of my room and just laugh and say "don't worry, it WILL all come out in the wash."
For years and years I had no idea what that meant. Then one day in my thirties I was washing clothes, and all of a sudden "it dawned on me" (yet another one of her sayings) dirt comes out in the wash, so that was it, the dirt in my life would all come out soon enough, and finally I got what she meant. Life's little aggravations will one day go away, and probably sooner than later, and she was always right! The test came and went, did I pass it? I don't even remember, but I probably did since I would have to face my dad, who did not necessarily believe that anything came out in the wash!
So now, my days are filled with my mom's laughter, even though she has long since passed. I have been told many times, "YOU are just like your mother", and I realize that this is the greatest compliment I can be given. To be JUST like MY mother is one of my best attributes.
